just because you do, doesn't mean you should.

1) Things that you know.
2) Things that you know but you don't know that you know.
3) Things that you don't know and you know that you don't know.
4) Things that you don't know and you don't know that you don't know.
If you ignore or don't care about 3) that shows lack of intelligence.

Example: just for fun, we do a 10 question quiz each night after dinner. A few of the questions are like this one: "Who plays Lieutenant Horatio Caine in the TV series "CSI: Miami"? (a) David Hasselhoff, (b) David Carradine, (c) David Jason, (d) David Caruso. The correct answer, of course, is "Who farnarking cares?"
Recognising #3 knowledge items in your life and being firm and ruthless about not throwing away a single precious moment or wasting even one little brain cell on garbage is how you actually get important stuff done.
What counts as "important"? Anything you want. But you can't - no human ever born can - learn all about everything, so you have to be selective. Figure out what you like, and do that. Even more important, figure out what you don't like, or like only a little bit, and don't do it! Example: I don't watch TV. Haven't watched it in more than 20 years. Result: I have vastly more time to read, play guitar, take photographs of wildlife, cook, eat, sit on the porch and watch the world go by, visit friends, travel, anything I want to do. And I am much better informed about many things because TV is one of the least time-effective communication and learning media ever invented: you can learn most things five or ten times faster other in ways, such as from a book. Oh and as you can see, sometimes I even get enough spare time to post nonsense on the Internet.
But of course, that isn't "ignoring" or a matter of "not caring about" #3, it is managing it effectively. In other words, I agree with you.
wouldn’t the natural food chain make one of them the predator over th other ?
