We’ve been through this before and the right answer, from memory, was Gary Moore on I can’t wait until tomorrow. Solo starts at 3:10

Roland said: Scales are primarily a tool for categorising knowledge, not a rule for what can or cannot be played.
Supportact said: [my style is] probably more an accumulation of limitations and bad habits than a 'style'.

  • Today I are been mostly enjoying Silver Giver by Virgil and the Accelerators, but that Peter Green one is a true thing of beauty. Mine changes regularly from soulful to widdly widdly.

Too many to name but I never tire of Can't You Hear Me Knocking by Mick Taylor. Light My Fire by Robbie Krieger's another good one.
And of course most Jimi Hendrix solos.

Alter Bridges's Blackbird solo for me (technically two solos but one follows the other...)

Anything by Derek Trucks. Although the solo in EJs Desert Rose is pretty spectacular.

Today it's the 'one note' solo from EC's Holy Mother.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

Desert Rose is my fav. Up there with Comfortably numb yet also incredibly virtuosic.

  • Made of Stone - by John Squire a master class in building tension and playing for the song.

Let it grow, off 461 Ocean Boulevard. Not sure it would be classed as a solo but whatever it is I love it. Let it loose off Exile is also v cool.

Plenty of interesting stuff here to look into!

i couldn't possible name a favourite, there are so many, but I will name a great solo that I think is under appreciated: Steve Stevens on Billy Idols Man for all seasons. There's a divine low-to-high clean run.

So difficult! Most people on here (including me) probably have 50 favourites that vary in order day to day, but here's some of mine.

    Steely Dan - Kid Charlemagne

    Steely Dan - Bodhisattva

Steely Dan - Don't Take Me Alive

    Steely Dan - Green Earrings

Steve Wilson - Drive Home (Guthrie Govan)

    Toto - Rosanna

Ian Dury - Reasons to be Cheerful pt3 (Chaz Jankel)

and the best ever Guitar Solo in a "Pop Song" is...... and shall always remain so is:

Chesney Hawkes - The One and Only (Nik Kershaw..............I think?)

    2:34 ;)

No woman no cry is a good call, had forgotten about that solo but it’s sublime.

Wis’d. Probably mine too - is it twelve bars he’s essentially plays one note over? Proof it’s not what you play, it’s the way that you play it. An exceptional piece of guitar playing....

Wet Sand by the chillis is a wonderful solo at the end.

For sheer guitar playing passion, not a technical solo, this Is Springsteen as a guitar player at his finest
