I've already commented but having more a of think, Brent Hinds' outro solo in Jaguar God is also one of my absolutely favourites for the same reason as Alter Bridge's Blackbird; it's got just the right mix of 'feel' and technicality.

Apart from every Gilmour solo, ever, there's Little Feat's Apolitical Blues with Mick Taylor and Bill Nelson's solo on Crying to the sky.

I posted earlier but forgot about this: This is my favourite performance of instrumental guitar easily.

I learned this to play for my wife at our wedding. This version is the one I endlessly listened to for ideas in the second section. Its simply perfect

Other faves for me are Jigsaw - Steve Rothery, Over the Hills - Gary Moore, Whispering a Prayer - Vai, GTFO - Nuno, Comfortably Numb - Pulse version, Telegraph Road - Dire Straits and Go Your Own Way

  • At 63, I'm probably a bit of an oldie on here, so many of you young ones might not be aware of the genius that is Bill Nelson.   So I'll take this opportunity to introduce you to quite possibly the greatest guitarist these shores has ever produced and yes, I'm biased as he's been my hero since I first heard him on John Peel back in 1973/4 but listen to these and you'll know why.  Be prepared to be amazed:

    • Track "A" - if you just want the solo, fast forward to 1min 47 sec

    • Track "B" - solo kicks in again (!) at 1 min 47secs

Great solo on “Adventures of a Yorkshire landscape “also some versions of “Down by the river”by
Mr Young.Really showing my age now. =)

The worst thing is I probably have an answer for all of those.  :#  Except unplugged solos because acoustics are for cowboys and squares.

Been uploading old tracks I recorded ages ago and hopefully some new noodles here.

I'M GOING TO SHOCK YOU ALL DOWN TO THE CORE...BASS SOLO!

    Rancid - 'Maxwell Murder'

Trust me, as a bassist first and foremost, playing THAT quick on a bass neck takes some skill practice.

    First track.

The solo on Ride on by AC/DC . Not technical obviously but gorgeous bit of blues. Closely followed by the solo off Symphony of Destruction by Megadeth.

    Gary Moore: The Prophet.

      Gilmour: Comfortably Numb

Yngwie's Fade out solo on the Alcatrazz 'Suffer Me' track

Jake E Lee: Bark at the Moon

      Knopfler: Brothers in Arms.
Haven't heard that track but the fade out would be my favourite part of an Yngwie song too :P

Striking a blow for rockand roll and rockabilly
The solo in Rock around the clock by Bill Haley and the Comets. It's one of the seminal guitar solos of early rock and roll. Played by Danny Cedrone who sadly was killed in a freak accident before he could bask in the glory of the worldwide hit.
it's simple in concept but blisteringly fast ... especially the last tremolo picked chromatic run.

My second favorite is the solo in This Heart'  played by Vince Gordon, the late guitarist of Danish rockabilly band The Jime.
Melodic, quirky, exciting and more difficult than it sounds (1.22)

Professional pickup winder, horse-testpilot and recovering Chocolate Hobnob addict.

Best Friends Girl by Elliot Easton. God, I love that solo. It's like a little sunbeam of joy beamed right into your ears.

  • Thought about this a lot, many contenders but I keep coming back to Kim Thayil’s solo on Soundgarden’s Like Suicide. He totally nailed a combination of melody, aggression and wah textures here, a soaring and and epic end to the song.

What no Tony Peluso? He usually gets a mention in these threads
    Never heard of him.

Link/name your favourite solo of his and I'll listen.
Most famous for the wonderful fuzzy melodic solos on The Carpenters Goodbye To Love. Possibly the first power ballad.
    Pretty good!
