  • It was not exactly a nice read for female members...  although fart stories are always funny.

I’m absolutely with you on that. I didn’t see the thread that got BCD vapourised but it must’ve been completely puerile if the anal sex one was allowed to run again after some discussion among the mods. I’d consider myself very broad minded but there’s still things I don’t want to see on what’s allegedly a guitar forum. If you want to talk about stuff like that there’s plenty of other places where frankly nobody cares.
It wasn’t the content of it per se (tho it was distasteful) it was the fact that it was a clear attempt to goad the modmins into action to test the line and claim inconsistency.

Given the recent discussions about Modmin activity it was blatant. And it clearly wasn’t going to stop any time soon.

As Lee pointed out, we do this for free and deliberate attempts to waste our time will be met with the action they deserve - it’s either that or just shut the forum as it becomes just too much work.

Humour me: on what basis are you describing yourself as "very broad minded"?

You're like the fourth or fifth person who has described themselves as all super liberal and so on but who apparently can't bear to see a bloke talking about what he does with his missus after lights-out.

I think it's already been clarified that it was a bit of the guitar forum that's reserved for discussions about non-guitar topics, and that the forum rules specified that threads about sex were appropriate for BCD. I mean, you're presumably aware that people posted all kinds of threads there about stuff that has sod-all to do with music and haven't I assume complained about those or advocated they they should sod off to the relevant specialised forums, so what is it about this particular thread that drew your ire?

  • It's mildly amusing to me that I've not had access to BCD for over a year, so haven't been privvy to any of the comings and goings on there.

    Bye!

Good, glad it's gone. Shame like people have said as it was a good outlet for those with problems, but the amount of nonsense filling it recently was daft. None of it remotely offended me, but we do have some under-18s on here who could easily see it (and under-16s I think), and like someone else has said, not a great place for any female members.

The thread that 'got BCD vapourised' was me trying to make a (very) drunken point about the difficulty (and folly) of trying to moderate threads about sex in a 'anything goes' section of the forum.  Before anyone jumps in saying BCD wasn't a 'free for all', I know the modmins have stated that this morning, but I had always thought BCD was just that.  In any case, I can't remember exactly what I posted, but I was just being a smart-arse by starting a thread about a related sexual act, somewhat more extreme, to illustrate how moderation of posts about sex can only ever be vague and inconsistent, depending on the moral viewpoint of the individual moderator.  At least I think that was what I was trying to say.  I have a vague memory of  laughing out loud to something I wrote about farting in a carrier bag.

I didn't do it to challenge the mods or to make them look stupid.  I did it because I thought it was funny and would make people laugh.  I didn't expect it to result in the reaction it got and certainly not the removal of the whole BCD section.  I regret very much that my attempts at puerile humour has resulted in the loss of BCD.  Sorry :-(

Which kind of begs the question, if it was seen as a deliberate attempt to provoke or push the boundaries by one or two members then why wasn’t the perpetrator just coolered (or preferably banned) ? Instead of which we get a (sometimes) useful section of the forum vanish into thin air.

I should add, I really don’t blame Lee for reacting the way he did. I’d more than likely do the same thing in his shoes.... you can only take so much shit being flung through the bars by the forum monkeys. Such a shame that people can’t see beyond their own selfishness and try to deliberately wreck what has become a fantastic community and a great resource for so many people.

Because it's not an isolated incident. Look back over the last three or four months - there have been constant incidents with half of the regulars demanding people be banned for having opinions they don't like, others demanding content gets deleted because they just don't like it, folk telling us what the rules really mean etc, followed by accusations of moderator bias, inconsistency and favouritism when we don't give in to those demands and then those people acting out and trying to force us into doing what they want by posting content that's clearly designed to waste our time.

Warning, coolering and banning these people is just an eternal game of whack-a-mole, so yes - it's an overreaction to an individual incident, but this is definitely a case of "be careful what you ask for". I've given all those people exactly what they wanted - this is what happens when we give in to everyone's demands.

Turns out the majority of folk don't actually like it. Who knew?

(not having a pop at you, by the way - I appreciate the part of your post that I didn't quote!)

And, might I add, spare a thought for the modmins who have to explain to their wives why they're getting a barrage of notification emails with subjects like, "FLAG: Anal Sex" and "FLAG: Felching".

Not to mention the notifications for PMs demanding that I take a specific set of actions about a member/post/thread at 2 in the morning and then another at 8am when nothing has happened - or their specific demand hasn’t been met.

Lee is spot on - over the last 3 or 4 months there has been a massive increase in members demanding that actions be taken and getting very upset when it isn’t - the irony being that half of them are “how dare you allow this content to stand - you are racist/sexist/fascist/communist” and the other half being “how dare you consider deleting this content - it’s an attack on my human rights/freedom of speech”

It has all become somewhat depressing.

I'd just like to point out that a flag is not an appropriate tool for either of those activities.

That may be due to threads about MILFs which are probably better served on a Loaded's forum.  If Loaded has a forum, and is still going?

I feel the mods on here are pretty lax compared to other forums I’ve been member of over the years, and thats a good thing.

Honestly try signing up for the dirty south or mylespaul..

One of the ‘admins’ used to park her shitty Fiesta over my drive constantly, and she had in massive vinyl lettering

‘Admin - so and so forum’ plastered over the rear window.

They were the type of people who had no control in their life, and so needed an online sense of authority to be proud of.. and my God were they arseholes.

I’m grateful the mods here seem like adults who arent members of the third reich.

As such if dickheads are trying their patience and they’ve had enough, then fair enough. Theres been hundreds of warnings if you look at closed threads in the past.

Hell, rule #1, dont be a dick.

Follow that and I find you have an easy ride in life and guess what, should you ever find yourself breaking the rules unintentionally, I’m sure they wont come guns a blazing for you straight of the bat either.

Mods, thanks. This forum gives me a social element, a wealth of knowledge and somewhere to share my problems.. and they work so I can enjoy that for free of charge.

Lets just all back up for a bit let the heads cool and revisit in a week see what we can all come up with!

Its fucking hot out and a Friday. :) lets have fun

[Quoting an ex-forumite.] “I’m an important member of this forum.”
Is anyone really an important member?

I can think of members who are helpful, informative, funny, positive or some combination of all four. I seek out their wit and wisdom. I try to contribute some myself.

Some of the brain effort I give to guitar wiring and modifying questions is to help the enquirer. Some is for the benefit of my little grey cells, on a use it or lose it basis.

Remember. Things could be worse. Many American forums are plagued with pissing contest threads about guns. (“Mine’s bigger than yours. Mine shoots more quickly than yours.”) These tend to descend into flame wars with one side objecting (and flagging) whilst the other side asserts its First and Second Amendment rights.

It would appear that some people still adhere to the notion that it is possible to “win” the Internet.

Perhaps, we are not all that different?
