It is, but we’ve reintroduced the (instant) death penalty as well

Rather than get rid of BCD... can’t we just get rid of the toxic idiots that ruined it?

I’m absolutely with you on that. I didn’t see the thread that got BCD vapourised but it must’ve been completely puerile if the anal sex one was allowed to run again after some discussion among the mods. I’d consider myself very broad minded but there’s still things I don’t want to see on what’s allegedly a guitar forum. If you want to talk about stuff like that there’s plenty of other places where frankly nobody cares.
Humour me: on what basis are you describing yourself as "very broad minded"?

You're like the fourth or fifth person who has described themselves as all super liberal and so on but who apparently can't bear to see a bloke talking about what he does with his missus after lights-out.

I think it's already been clarified that it was a bit of the guitar forum that's reserved for discussions about non-guitar topics, and that the forum rules specified that threads about sex were appropriate for BCD. I mean, you're presumably aware that people posted all kinds of threads there about stuff that has sod-all to do with music and haven't I assume complained about those or advocated they they should sod off to the relevant specialised forums, so what is it about this particular thread that drew your ire?
    Sorry, I just spotted this.

I’m really not that interested in your sex life anyway but to me your post came across as just “let’s see how far I can push the boundaries on here“ and salacious for the sake of it. If you want to do your wife up the wrong’un, well good for you and I’m very happy for you. We don’t necessarily all want to hear about it though. If you genuinely wanted advice I don’t think a guitar forum is the place to ask and I’m pretty sure you’re intelligent enough to realise that.

And yes, I do consider myself broad minded. I’ve done plenty of naughty things with the laydeez in my life too, I just don’t feel the need to post in public about them.

  • My 2p’s worth, well done to the mods for taking a stand and thanks once again for their time and effort they put in to this forum.

BCD to me,was for the most part a boys own club for people pushing boundary’s and vague attempts at blue humour so no real loss there.

However it did also provide a place for some to ask for help on a personal level “ in private “ which could be regarded as a loss. My thoughts on this are divided between: the people on the forum are my anonymous  virtual mates so will understand and offer help if I need it, and it’s a guitar forum so leave it at that.

Like @Emp_Fab I sort of thought that BCD was basically an anything goes section created specifically to save the mods time i.e. potential legal issues being the only thing that would need intervention. I'm pretty sure I didn't post anything that was too rude (actually anything rude at all) but accepted that others would.

This seems like a popular viewpoint in this thread but, to me, it's akin to going to pornhub and complaining there are naked ladies there. If the mods are getting endless flags then a blanket 'don't look if you don't like seeing it' sticky might be in order (and just ignoring any tantrums that follow). I don't think mods pandering to the offended (in BCD) is good for them - they are essentially being asked to tailor a forum to an individual's particular sensibilities; and there are a lot of individuals.

This is a guitar forum but, like any other interest, a community forms around that central interest and grows to interact in other ways. I might like to see something humourous on a Friday but don't rail against the idea that I might see that on a guitar forum.

  • BCD wasn't an area I frequently visited.

The main attraction of it for me was the fact that Google couldn't see it. I used it two or three times to discuss or ask for help on very sensitive subjects to do with my work, mental health or stuff that I really needed to talk through, but didn't want to be findable by the outside world, given what I do for a living.

It's nice to know that that particular option, that has been really important to me on a number of occasions, is now gone... because some man-children wanted to push buttons and annoy the mods.

    Top work fellas.

Lee etc, sorry you have to put up with that shit.

I take your point about BCD being anything goes, but surely you have to draw the line somewhere? If we accept that discussing anal is permissible then how long before some twerp decides to take it to the next level, just because they think it’ll be a hoot to try? In fact it looks like somebody already did, which is why we ended up in this sorry mess.

As someone who collects vintage wheel hubs for a hobby I certainly had a surprise when...

There are ways to privately communicate with other individuals or groups of individuals on here and most people are largely anonymous anyway so I'm not sure how important a hidden space ever was. I think once you have a BCD or equivalent it will always be interpreted at some point as anything goes - looks like a duck, quacks like a duck...

Thing is that BCD has a double life. On one hand it was a channel for the sort of posts that got it closed down; on the other a useful resource to discuss problems in a safe, discrete environment.

The latter is a loss, the former less so.

What we really need is a “Problem Page”, but still leaves the issue of how to moderate it.

I think it would be worth considering a new private sub forum. Maybe call it 'off your chest' or 'in confidence' or something. And have super strict rules on what sort of content is allowed.

I agree, a confidential forumites’ support area.

Chatham House Rules maybe? Maybe strictly controlled topics but with Extra anonymised ID? If that’s possible.

Then the problems would be addressed without knowing who has the problem they need help with? No baggage then.

I agree that having an area that doesn't appear on Google for the type of personal stuff mentioned above is a good idea, and get rid of the rest of the stuff.

If people really want those sorts of discussions they can ask to be moved to the Trolls section, where they obviously won't be able to interact with the rest of the forum.

Actually, that’s a great idea.  I have, in the past, wanted to ask for help on certain subjects but wasn’t comfortable doing so, even in BCD, because “Emp_Fab” is not a name I use exclusively on here and many people in my personal life know I go by that name online.  I don’t know if it’s possible, or how you could moderate if you didn’t know who was who - or whether the mods only could know?

How about generic accounts with known passwords for anyone to use in situations where they didn’t want their forum name known ?
