A Russell Brand documentary about Jack Kerouac's On the Road has him in it as he owns the original manuscript.
Most rich people couldn't impress me at all with their possessions (flash cars, jewels etc.) but this guy definitely could, he seems to make the kind of big purchases I would if I had the money.
Wonder if he has any other memorabilia of things I love.

My overall impression is that there was certainly some auction fever going on, I agree I think the Red Strat went relatively cheaply in context, as did possibly the Wall Les Paul.
But many other things went for very hard to understand money, I'm thinking especially the spare guitars which simply travelled on tour and were likely rarely/never used (great post from SevenDecades citing some of them and saying they'll never feel they overpaid for a guitar again!) and especially that case - which is just madness, it's just a normal road case - he's likely never even touched it!
But well done to DG, that's a lot of money for charity - and not the first time he's done a big gesture
Esp if she want's a new kitchen.
