I got some new shoes this week as the tread fell off my old ones. Went for just neutral but I've noticed that when I first start running , every now and again seem to feel the treadmill belt slipping under me more. I guess I'm somehow keeping my foot in contact with the belt for longer but don't k ow what could be causing it. Seems to settle in after 5 mins or so.
That seems very strange. Is the belt slipping on the treadmill or your shoes actually slipping?
I've had 'squeaky shoes' on the treadmill when I get tired, but not experienced that.

I think its more like im leaving my foot in contact for a bit too long so i feel the movement, i dont think it can be the machine as it coincided exactly with the new shoes

Cheers @djspecialist you've got a great routine going there. And that's the thing isn't it? Routine. It's been the main driver for me since 6th January (when I started this current regime). Regular 5k's coupled with plenty of strength training (press ups mainly) has been really enjoyable. The day wouldn't be the same without a good old sweat fest/gritting of teeth. I'm also really taking pride in what I eat.

    Same as usual for me this week. 6x5km runs. And no injuries to date (thankfully). I might need some new trainers soon though. My Sauconys are looking shot. Ironically I was  looking at the Asics @joneve. ;;;;;

@steven70 skipping....that's something I need to try. Off to check some ropes out now.
That’s good stuff. I’m not running due to injury but I’m managing at least one form of exercise for 30 mins a day minimum. As always I could do with cleaning my eating up though.

For anyone looking at jumping rope this is a
    comprehensive tutorial.

Only 12 miles this week. Would like to get to the stage of doing 17-20 miles a week at least but only managing 3 runs a week at the minute as my legs take an age to recover :-/

Not a bad week. 5k is down to 25 minutes now. I'm going to run in the rain later, anyone else like getting wet?

That is a great link - just a word of warning, be a bit careful...I completely knackered my achilles/heel by overdoing it.
Probably because I am an idiot, became obsessed and went mad at it without building up properly.
Sure if you stick to the plan it'll be good. Meanwhile, I have learned a lesson

Unlucky! You should be up on your toes rather than flat feet. Could that be the issue?

Nice work. I don’t mind a wet run, also like a night time one. I’d just got to ~ 26min with my 5k before my knee went.

2 months rest and I’m 4 post-injury runs in but taking it steady at around 30 min now. I think pushing myself and looking for an improvement every time I left the house contributed to fucking my knee up. That and not stretching/warming up...

Thinking of joining the club today! Not run that much at all for ages....and need some motivation and chat about running etc. I've always been into it and trained a bit at Stockport and mentored a lad that's become a very very good runner on the league scene so looking forward at keeping up with the thread!  I'm just starting off with little runs down the lane and back probably about 2k's worth for the next week or so. I run on the forefoot so the stiff calves always hit me bad early on of I do too much!

Anyone else just getting back into it here?

I still bang in a steady 30 minute one regularly Steve. It’s just not taking much interest in pacing and how I feel during the run that dictates the final time. If I was in a race or getting shouted at I’d do it quicker  =)

Welcome Rich. I think a lot of us have been out of it and got back into it, isn’t that how life is? Good idea to ease yourself in gently. Good luck and enjoy.

Cheers @deadman, my current policy is keep steady jogging until I think a niggle could develop then have a good walk... Looks like a good day for a little run!

Ah yes, could be - probably a combination of poor technique and completely overdoing it!
Bloody frustrating, this heel thing...recovery time is that much longer as one ages.
Luckily, have been able to borrow a bike for a few weeks...

20 miler today finishing off a 40 mile week. Off road and just over 1100 feet of climb too. With lockdown I'm not chancing stopping at any shops so carrying everying. A couple of litres of water to drink, 500ml to cool down with plus first aid kit, treking poles (next race for these),phone, food and back pack adds about 1/2 stone extra in weight.

I'm on week 11 of my come back plan and week 12 was going to end with a trail marathon but tbh I'm ready for some additional recovery. So going to take it easy next week and start afresh week after with a "build" phase of training. Will add in hill repeats every week (rather than every other at the moment) and a weekly tempo run. Will also increase distance to 26 miiles and then a 28 and 31 miler before ending that phase and this cycle with a 2 week easy period.

Potential race for September has now been cancelled so hoping the Welsh trail series does go ahead although looking unlikely. Currently thinking of doing a double weekend with 2 x 40 milers in prep for January's race. Very hard logistically atm with all the precautions and think I can manage this with some family helping out.

For those getting back into running, do look at the couch to 5k programs available.  Very easy to go out too hard at the beginning otherwise and get injured. Consistency pays big dividends in running and staying injury free is vital. :)

    Help!

I tried the couch to 5k when lock down started.  I’ve tried it twice before but each time I get to about week 5 (running for about 20 minutes) my knees pretty much collapse in pain both underneath and on top for the kneecap. It was very painful to walk for about 10 days and I had to put bags of frozen peas on my knees to take the pain away.

Can anyone give me some advice of what to do (other than “stop trying”).  I really need and want to improve my fitness and lose some weight but this puts the brakes on it every time. I need to do something differently but don’t know what.

I had running shoes properly fitted at a specialist running shop so I don’t think it’s incorrect footwear.
