Not as big as my tiny bet on the Madrid game yesterday with Tiraspol though. Thought I'd drop a couple of quid on the minnows after they had the goal disallowed that would have made it 2-1 to them. Absolute screamer for the winner.
As a United fan it keeps the dream alive a bit longer, but also delays the inevitable. We may limp
out of the group phase but that’s about it……
I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin
But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to
After 3 games of the season, Spurs were top of the league with a perfect record (and Arsenal were bottom with the complete opposite).
Neither situation was going to last.
Nuno arrived late, Kane arrived later. Then half the team disappeared off on international games, some came back injured and some detoured via Croatia for 10 days. They're all about to disappear off again shortly.
That's a hopeless basis on which to try to prepare the players, including a bunch of new players, with a new manager, new coaches and (hopefully) a new approach, to play games.
I'll take a view at the end of the year.
I'm pretty confident that we'll be out of the running for the title by then, but probably still in Europe (regrettably - that's an unhelpful distraction), the FA Cup and top4 should still be a realistic aim. If not ...
Poch, Maureen, Mason and now Nuno have failed to halt Dele's decline.
Ndombele has been at the club for two and a half years and still can't last for ninety minutes.
Hojbjerg is in a bit of a dip in form at the moment, and Skipp is still young and relatively inexperienced.
When your back four have little or no protection in front of them you can be overrun. And we have been.
Nuno says he picked the wrong team against Woolwich. Well fuck me, not only is that stating the blindingly obvious but isn't picking the right team what he's paid to do?
Conte was close to signing but he wanted too much control over transfers - something Levy would never agree to. A guy like Conte doesn’t need the money - he wants to win shit and not stagnate in mid table.
I’ve been hoping Nuno would re-find the Dele of a few years back, because there should still be one hell of a footballer tucked away in there somewhere.
Ndombele just proves my theory that Spurs *never* spend big money wisely. They might walk away from a championship player because he’s unproven in the PremLeague and overpriced at £20m. But then they find £60m for a moody Frenchman who also happens to be unproven (still) in the PremLeague.
*sigh*
Instead of Ndombele, we could have bought a championship team, used it as the B team and used it to give our younger players a chance to play real football and develop into first teamers. Instead of watching them get bored playing meaningless under15/17/18/21/23 age group matches.
The problem these days is the requirement for instant gratification. We've signed players (Clarke, Sessignon) but they haven't set the world alight. Teams will buy what looks like a ready-made replacement rather than take the time with a lower-league signing.
On the other hand, Ndombele and Lo Celso cost a few bob and neither can last ninety minutes and be any good for most of the time they are actually on the pitch.
Still, after giving those Slovenians a tanking on Thursday I bet the rest of the league have ordered extra bogroll, so heavily are they crapping themselves at the thought of taking us on.
Though if Spurs has spent £70m on a Centre Back, we'd have probably gone for his slightly lesser known cousin.
Deek.
